"A leader's role is to raise people's aspirations for what they can become and to release their energies so they will try to get there."

Conferences & Conventions
The Black Writers Reunion & Conference was originally organized to bring together members of the Black Writers Alliance, the nonprofit literary arts association I founded in June 1998. The first two conferences offered two days of workshops and panels on the craft of writing and the business of publishing, a banquet, literary awards presentations, receptions, 50-author expo, and an inspirational Sunday brunch. The third continued the tradition with valuable workshops on the craft of writing fiction, nonfiction, poetry, plays, and screenplays, self- and traditional publishing; however, the fourth conference was expanded to include careers and businesses for writers as well. My fifth conference, to be held in Las Vegas June 2009, will feature workshops on entertainment writing and new media along with fiction, nonfiction, and self-publishing.
